MicroBlue Plays a Huge Part in UK’s First Net-Zero Hotel

PROJECT BRIEF

Artus Air, recognised as one of the UK’s leading specialists in energy-efficient air conditioning installations, was appointed to deliver the HVAC system for the country’s first net zero carbon hotel. This landmark project required an innovative approach to meet stringent sustainability standards while maintaining exceptional comfort and performance.

CHALLENGES

The developers behind the hotel were committed to achieving net zero carbon both in construction and ongoing operation. This meant that every system in the building had to be evaluated for energy consumption, emissions, and long-term sustainability. A conventional HVAC solution would not suffice—the project demanded a highly efficient, low-noise, and intelligent system that aligned with both environmental and comfort goals.

OUR SOLUTION

Each cooling unit in the project featured the BlueDiamond MicroBlue condensate removal pump—our most powerful pump in an ultra-compact form factor. Powered by patented Gyrok™ technology, the MicroBlue played a pivotal role in enabling the project to achieve its ambitious net zero carbon emissions target.

The MicroBlue is equipped with CondenSense™, our advanced intelligent sensing technology that monitors condensate levels in real time. This enables the pump to activate only when needed, and to automatically adjust its flow rate to match the exact volume of condensate produced. The result is a highly efficient system that eliminates unnecessary energy use while ensuring consistent performance.

Thanks to its self-priming, compact design, the MicroBlue integrated seamlessly into the Artus Air cooling systems. Despite its small footprint, it delivers a robust, reliable flow rate and can even run dry without damage, enhancing both operational safety and lifespan.

Max Flow:5 L/MIN (1.3 G/HOUR)
Max Head:5 M (16 FT)
Max Lift:2 M (6FT)
Sound:17 dB(A)
Unit:3.5 KW (18000 BTU)

AVAILABLE IN: UK, EU & USA

Engineered for energy efficiency, ultra-quiet operation, and minimal environmental impact, the MicroBlue was key to creating one of the market’s most sustainable HVAC solutions. Its low noise emissions, smart energy-saving capabilities, and space-efficient design made it the perfect fit for the UK’s first branded net zero carbon hotel—supporting both the architectural vision and the sustainability goals of this forward-thinking development.

THE OUTCOME

The supply of our BlueDiamond condensate pumps to Artus Air helped deliver cooling systems that used 89% less operational energy than traditional units, with a 47% lower embodied carbon footprint. Subsequently, our ultra-compact MicroBlue pump with patented RD and Gyrok technology played a crucial role in making these cooling systems quiet, reliable, energy efficient. This is the future of the hospitality industry as it moves towards improved sustainability, with the goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
